In a shocking incident, a migrant woman worker was allegedly gang-raped at a local railway station in Andhra Pradesh in the intervening nights of Saturday and Sunday, reports said. Three men have been arrested in the case.
According to media reports, the incident took place at Repalle railway station in Baptala when the woman, along with her husband and three children, was on her way to Nagayalanka for daily wage work. Since their train was in the morning, the family decided to spend the night at the railway station.
Quoting sources, news agency ANI reported that the three accused entered the station in the midnight and forcefully took the woman away from her family to the terminal end of the platform and raped her. They also thrashed her husband when he tried to stop them.
According to police, the accused also snatched Rs 750 from the family. “We have taken the women to a local government hospital for treatment. She is in hospital undergoing treatment and is stable now,” Vakul Jindal, Bapatla Superintendent of Police, was quoted as saying by the news agency.
A case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused.
