A special CBI court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea from disgraced police officer Sachin Vaze. Vaze has petitioned the court to become an an approver in a corruption case involving former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh.

Vaze had been arrested by the National Investigation Agency in March 2021 for his alleged involvement in the planting of an explosive-laden vehicle near the residence of Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai.

The Free Press Journal reported on Thursday “At present, Vaze is in custody in three cases. The first case is regarding the discovery of explosives near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's residence in Mumbai on February 25, 2021, and the subsequent murder of a businessman being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Nine others are also accused in the case along with him. The second case against him is by the CBI in which he has sought pardon. The third case is a money laundering case which is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate against Deshmukh and others. While Waze [Vaze] also sought pardon in the ED case, his application is kept in abeyance.”

Deshmukh had resigned in April 2021 after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to investigate claims he had operated an extortion network using police officers, including Vaze.

Deshmukh was arrested in November.
