Two terrorists of the proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed were killed by security forces during an anti-terror operation in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday. Pulwama police, Army and the CRPF had launched a joint cordon and search operation based on an input shared by Kulgam police about the presence of terrorists in Gundipora village on Sunday evening. An encounter broke out after the hiding militants fired upon the forces.

"During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists in the residential house of Nazir Ahmad Mir fired indiscriminately upon the search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter," a police spokesperson said.

The slain ultras were identified as Abid Hussain Shah and Saqib Azad Sofi of the JeM. Police have recovered incriminating materials including two AK-47 rifles from the site of encounter.

According to police records, both the slain men were categorized terrorists and part of groups involved in several terror crime cases, including attacks on police and civilian atrocities, the spokesperson said

"Pertinently, the killed terrorist Abid Shah was involved in the recent killing of unarmed policeman Constable Reyaz Ahmad at his residential house at Gadoora area of Pulwama on 13th May 2022," he added.
