Gopal Italia, the president of the Gujarat unit of the Aam Aadmi Party, on Wednesday announced the dissolution of the party’s organisational structure in the election-bound state. He said the new structure would be announced soon.
Italia said in Ahmedabad that except for the post of president, all posts stand dissolved. “New strengthened structure will come into force soon,” he said. He added the decision had been taken keeping in view the party’s strategy and plan for winning the elections.
Elections in Gujarat are scheduled by the year-end and the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP is emerging as a third force in the state. For the first time, the state will witness a three-cornered contest in the real sense.
Italia claimed that people, including youth in large numbers, have been joining the party. The AAP has inducted several known faces across the state and they are expected to get accommodated in the new structure.
According to Italia, the new structure would also include district-wise appointments. The party has been organising various programmes across Gujarat to strengthen its base and highlight the issues in education and health sectors in the state. The AAP is also talking about the work done on those fronts in Delhi.
Two days ago, Kejriwal took part in a Tiranga Yatra in Mehsana, north Gujarat, an area which is a bastion of Patidars. In his speech, Kejriwal dared Gujarat BJP president C.R. Paatil to accuse him. Paatil had taken jibes at Kejriwal and called him a thug.
