In a recent incident involving an electric vehicle, a house got burnt down at Peddachikod village in Siddipet district, Telangana during the late hours of Wednesday.
The Hindu reported that Putta Lakshmi Naranayana, the owner of the vehicle parked his electric bike nearby his neighbour Durgaiah’s house on Wednesday night. Around midnight, the bike exploded and Durgaiah’s house got gutted, the publication quoted police saying. The reason for the fire was not known, said the police. However, all the residents in the house escaped unhurt as they ran away from the house, The Hindu reported.
The New Indian Express reported that Narayana heard three explosion sounds around midnight. Sources told the publication that the bike was charging when the mishap took place and though people in the neighbourhood tried to douse the fire, it went in vain. Police and Fire rushed to the spot and doused the fire. Dubbaka police have registered a case and they are investigating.
Several incidents of electric vehicles catching fire were reported in recent times. Three EV manufacturers, Ola, Okinawa and Pure EV recalled over 1000 vehicles recently for possible defects.
The companies made the move after Union Minister Nitin Gadkari warned that EV manufacturers found negligent would be penalised. The Central government also formed an expert committee in April to study about fire accidents involving EV vehicles and to suggest remedial measures.
