Even as Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and his fellow supporter MLAs from the party in Maharashtra continue to stay put in a star hotel in Surat, top BJP leaders are expected in Ahmedabad by the end of the day on Tuesday.
The MLAs had reached Surat late night on Monday after Shinde pushed the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to the brink of collapse. The BJP has claimed that it has the support of 134 MLAs.
Gujarat is a safe haven for the MLAs as the BJP has been ruling the state since 1995.
The grapevine has it that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis are expected to reach Ahmedabad late on Tuesday.
In the political circles it became clear that something was cooking as Gujarat BJP president C.R. Paatil canceled his commitment on the International Yoga Day of Tuesday and preferred to be in Surat. Paatil, who represents Navsari in the Lok Sabha, stays in Surat.
Surat also is the home town of Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi.
The Shiv Sena has removed Shinde as the legislative party leader while the rebel leader has dropped the party's name from his Twitter bio.
Paatil is believed to have met Shinde at the hotel on Monday night. Milind Narvekar and Ravindra Phatak, who are believed to have been sent by Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackery, also held a meeting with Shinde.
