A day after the gruesome killing of a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the probe." The involvement of any organisation and international links will be thoroughly investigated," MHA stated.

Two men slit the throat of tailor Kanhaiya Lal and posted a video on social media where they claimed that they are avenging an insult to Islam. This triggered communal tension in the Rajasthan city with curfew being imposed. Mobile internet servicess have been suspended across all 33 districts of Rajasthan. The state is on high alert and section 144 has been imposed in all districts for one month. Leaves of police and administration officials have also been cancelled.

The incident is being treated as a 'terror incident'. The Rajasthan ATS team that was probing the murder has found digital evidence pointing to links with a Pakistan-based outfit.

In a video clip, one of the purported assailants declared that they had beheaded the man and then threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying their knife will get him as well.
