Eighteen years after it held its national executive meeting in Hyderabad, the BJP is putting on a show of strength in the city, this time as a challenge to K. Chandrashekar Rao government. The BJP aims to emerge as a potent force in the state even as TRS government is all set to complete 10 years in power.
In the last a few months, the party has been holding a series of programmes to strengthen its organisation from booth level while also poaching leaders from other parties in the southern state.
“We have put up a countdown clock in the party offices. 522 days remain for TRS government to go out. This countdown represents the sentiment of the people of the state," BJP general secretary and Telangana party in-charge Tarun Chugh said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the two-day meeting, stay with cadre and participate in all the programmes before addressing a rally of workers from 35,000 booths in the state Sunday. “It will be a historic meeting after which countdown of state government will hasten," Chugh said.
The BJP's national executive meeting will be held at Novotel Hotel in the city. At the venue, the party has put up a replica of Golconda fort with a BJP flag atop. There is also a replica of Ramapa Temple, a world heritage site, apart from the Kakatiya Toran which are the cultural symbols of the state.
The party has also put up an exhibition, highlighting the atrocities committed by Razakar militia, the temples of the state, and the BJP's contribution in building the state. The party's emphasis on cultural nationalism as its stated policy is fully apparent as it prepares to contest all seats in the state.
At the two-day convention, which will be attended by 340 delegates, discussions will be held on various issues and a political resolution will be passed.
All the chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states will participate in the event. The newly appointed Maharashtra deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis will also attend though briefly, sources said.
