Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dubbed the arrests of journalists as “autocratic” and action of investigation agencies against the opposition leaders as “betrayal” of the country’s freedom fighters.
Stalin was interacting with the audience after delivering his inaugural address at the Manorama News Conclave – the theme of which was India@75 - federalism, freedom and forward – in Thrissur, Kerala, on Saturday.
“It is wrong to snatch away the rights provided by the Constitution, created after independence, which was ensured after much struggle," he said.
Talking about Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on “one nation, one language”, Stalin said it is not feasible for a country like India where people speak many languages and practise different religions. “Those who are trying to impose the idea of one religion, one language and one culture, are trying to break our unity. Such forces are enemies of India and its people. We should not give room to such evil forces.”
Asserting that DMK’s electoral tie-up with the Congress and the Left parties will continue, he said, “The alliance between DMK and CPI(M) is not just an electoral alliance, but an ideological alliance, too. We are together.”
