The BJP, on Tuesday, suspended party leader Seema Patra amid allegations that she tortured a tribal woman who has been working as a maid at her home. Patra, a member of BJP women's wing's national working committee, has allegedly been torturing the maid for the past eight years.
The victim was reportedly forced to clean the toilet with her tongue.
Ironically, according to her social media profile, Patra is the state convener of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign of the Centre.
According to the Twitter handle, The Dalit Voice, a forum that campaigns against the atrocities against Dalits, "for eight consecutive years she was imprisoned and tortured, her teeth were blown out, she was given urine, she was burnt with iron rods several times."
In a video that was shared along with the tweet, the woman, extremely emaciated, is seen attempting to speak a few words.
The forum urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to initiate strict action against the accused.
The National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of media reports of the incident and wrote to Jharkhand DGP, seeking a fair probe and arrest of the accused.
An FIR has been registered.
