Ghulam Nabi Azad who resigned from Congress after five decades said in Jammu on Sunday that he will fight for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the rights of the people.
After resigning from Congress, the veteran politician announced he will form a political party and its first unit will be launched from Jammu and Kashmir. Hundreds of political workers from Jammu and Kashmir including ten former ministers and MLAs have joined Azad, most of them from Congress.
He was given a rousing reception at the airport and wore a turban symbolising his association with Jammu and Dogra culture.
Addressing his supporters at Sainik Farms on the outskirts of Jammu, the veteran politician said that his party will focus on the restoration of full statehood, right to land and employment to native domiciles.
Taking a dig at the Congress, he said they had nurtured the party with their blood and not by computers or Twitter. He said he has not decided on the name of his party yet.
"My people will decide the name of our party,’’ he said.” I just want a Hindustani (non-English) name so that everyone could easily connect with it.” He said people who are trying to defame them, their reach is limited to gadgets and social media
He said that is the reason Congress is nowhere visible on the ground. He said he was a common man and was always with the people.
“In the past one week, many people have resigned from the Congress and have supported me,” he said.
