Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has arrived in Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi amid the political crisis in his home state that clouded his chances of running for the post of Congress party president.

Before heading to Jodhpur House in Delhi, Gehlot told reporters that there "is always discipline in Congress." He downplayed the MLAs' rebellion in Rajasthan, saying "internal politics goes on, we will resolve it."

Gehlot added the party works under the Congress president, and the decisions will be taken at the right time. He said Congress workers worry about the direction in which the country is heading and tackling the issue was more important.

"Be it inflation, unemployment or dictatorial tendency in the country, Rahul Gandhi worries about it. All of us in Congress worry about the direction in which the country is heading. Tackling is more important for us. Internal politics goes on, we`ll resolve it," Gehlot was quoted by ANI News.

Gehlot was expected to be the top contender in the polls until the rebellion by his loyalists. Following the drama, the party had issued show cause notice to three of his loyalists. The meeting with Sonia is expected to clear all uncertainties about his candidature.

Besides Gehlot, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh is also expected to meet Sonia today. His meeting comes amid reports that Singh too has entered the race for the Congress president.

Sources close to Singh said he is likely to file his nomination for the top post on Thursday. "I had no plans to come to Delhi, but because of this election, I am coming to Delhi," Singh told reporters.

Shashi Tharoor is also expected to file the nominations on Thursday. The last day to file nominations for the election is September 30. The polling will take place on October 17 and the result will be announced on October 19.
