Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao will announce his national party today, months after launching his bid to float a national party.
The new name of the party is likely to be 'Bharata Rashtra Samiti' (BRS). The announcement is likely to happen at 1:19 pm at TRS headquarters Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad.
"The Chief Minister reiterated that, as announced earlier, the party general meeting will be held at 11 am on October 5 in Telangana Bhavan. Leaders are requested to attend the meeting within the specified time," an official release from K Chandrashekar Rao's office said.
The party would also apprise the Election Commission of the change as per the Representation of the People Act and relevant rules, first through e-mail and later in person on October 6.
Earlier reports had suggested that KCR would highlight the welfare schemes initiated in the state, including the 'Rythu Bandhu' support scheme for farmers and 'Dalit Bandhu' (Rs 10 lakh grant to every Dalit household to start any business or trade, to help it emerge as a national force.
"Similar schemes are not devised and implemented at the national level, and the BJP has also dubbed welfare initiatives as freebies."Electricity has not been provided in all the villages across the country and all such aspects would be taken up in the campaign to expose the ruling party at the Centre," party sources told PTI.
Rao had also been vocal about his vision for a "BJP Mukt Bharat" (BJP-free India) during his recent meeting with Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar when he blamed the Central government for the "many ills plaguing the country."
He had also announced that free power would be supplied to farmers across the country if a "non-BJP government" was voted to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
However, for the party to get a national status, it will need at least 6 per cent of valid votes in over four states in Lok Sabha and assembly elections.
Meanwhile, senior JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy and several party MLAs arrived in Hyderabad this evening to attend the TRS' general body meeting. The JD(S) delegation was received at the Begumpet airport here by TRS Working President K T Rama Rao, son of Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao, TRS sources said.
