The incessant heavy rains from the early hours of Friday had left several parts of Mumbai waterlogged. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert on Saturday.

Mumbai's Hindmata and Sion area was inundated. Huge traffic snarls were witnessed in many parts of the city. Motorists and pedestrians had a tough time wading through the waterlogged areas.

The Mumbai Traffic police have alerted the public to refrain from taking the waterlogged roads, especially in the Hindmata area.

In the early hours of Friday, an intense and heavy downpour of rain was witnessed in several parts of Mumbai.

IMD forecasted moderate to heavy rain/thundershowers in the city and suburbs in the next 24 hours. For the next two days, a yellow alert has been issued to the districts of Thane, Palghar and Konkan region.

IMD has also predicted isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorm over Gujarat, Maharastra, Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka and Kerala in the next two days.

Meanwhile, amid heavy rainfall, public transport services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and Railways remained unaffected. The local train services on all three corridors are also running normally.

A civic official said that the eastern and western suburbs received an average of 1.05mm, 9.12 mm and 1.28 mm of rainfall respectively between 11 am to 2 pm. Eastern suburbs like Vikhroli received up to 35 mm of rainfall in the four-hour period, he added.
