All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi sought to know if Muslim wear should wear bikini if not hijab. His comments came after the Supreme Court delivered a split verdict on the ban on hijabs in Karnataka's educational institutions.
Addressing a gathering on Thursday evening, the MP claimed that nobody is forcing Muslim women to wear hijab. He sought to know if Sikh people can wear a turban, Christians can wear a cross and Hindus vibudhi, why can't Muslim girls wear hijab in schools.
"If not hijab, should Muslim girls wear a bikini? If you want, you can wear it," he said.
Asaduddin Owaisi claimed that a ban on hijab will send a wrong message to girls from Sikh, Christian, and Hindu communities that Muslims are lesser citizens. "Why are you bent upon finishing off our religion, culture and beard," he asked.
He claimed that wearing hijab comes under freedom of religion, and said if such freedom exists, students will learn from each others' culture.
The MP said it is the constitutional right of people to wear what they want. "If you come to Hyderabad, you will see the most notorious drivers are our sisters. I ask my driver to be careful. If they ride pillion with them on motorcycles, they will understand if anyone can force them to do anything," the MP said.
He reiterated an earlier claim that one day, a hijab-wearing woman will become the prime minister of India. "I have said this before and will say it again. Many people felt disturbed when I said that if not in my lifetime, then after me, a woman wearing hijab will become the PM of this country."
