The life story of Archana Nag, a 26-year-old, from Kalahandi is as dramatic as a Bollywood movie. Befriending influential people including politicians, businessmen and film producers, she blackmailed and extorted money from the rich.
However, last week Odisha police arrested Nag on charges of blackmailing based on a complaint given by a lady and an Odia film producer. The police have booked Nag, her husband and another person under different sections of the IPC and the IT Act.
According to the police, Nag allegedly befriended people on social media and blackmailed them after clicking intimate photos and videos.
Born in Kalahandi, she arrived in Bhubaneswar in 2015. She reportedly worked at a private security firm and later worked with a beauty parlour. She got married to Jagabandhu Chand of Balasore district in 2018.
According to reports, it is alleged that she ran a sex racket while working at the beauty parlour.
Her rise was very swift in quite a short time period. She managed to acquire a wealth of around Rs 30 crore in a very limited time of a few years. Her big mansion has imported decorations, luxury cars and high breed dogs and a white horse.
Police claimed that she used to befriend rich and influential people and provided them with her company. Later she used to demand money and threaten to make the intimate pictures and videos public if they are not willing to pay her.
Earlier, on October 6 Nag was arrested on the complaint of a girl who accused her of using her in the racket.
According to reports, her life story is so intriguing that Odia filmmaker Sridhar Martha is planning to make a feature film on her life.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJP and Congress in Odisha demanded a high-level investigation into the case of Archana Nag. BJP demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, BJP Mahila Morcha president Smruti Patnaik alleged the police have utterly failed to conduct a proper investigation into the case, in which several senior ruling party leaders, including ministers, are said to be involved. The matter raises further suspicion as police are not revealing the names of all those having links with the blackmailing racket, she said.
The woman's husband is also involved in the racket, and by not arresting him, the police allowed him to destroy evidence, she alleged.
The Congress also demanded a court-monitored SIT probe into the case.
