RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav's second daughter Rohini Acharya will donate a kidney to her father who is battling several health complications, reports said on Thursday. Rohini, who is active on social media and is a strong critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, resides in Singapore with her husband and children.
Lalu Prasad, 74, had recently visited Singapore for treatment and doctors advised a kidney transplant. Rohini also underwent the test as a donor and the doctors gave their approval for the transplant.
The RJD chief was unwilling for the kidney transplant but Rohini, along with other family members, convinced him to undergo a transplant and accept his daughter as a donor, reported IANS quoting sources.
According to the news agency, the transplant is expected to take place on November 24 when the former CM will visit Singapore again. Lalu Prasad's kidneys have reportedly suffered 75 per cent damage.
“I'm destiny's child and so proud to give my kidney to papa," Rohini told NDTV.
Meanwhile, doctors at AIIMS in Delhi, where he was treated earlier, said they are not aware of the development. A doctor told PTI that no permission would be required from AIIMS if the transplant happens in another country.
Yadav, who is currently in Delhi, is out on bail. He has been jailed for his involvement in fodder cases and has been hospitalised several times in Delhi and Ranchi for treatment.
