A Delhi court on Thursday extended the police custody of Aftab Amin Poonawala, the accused in the murder of his live-in partner Shraddha Walker, by five days. Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shukla also gave permission for a narco-analysis (lie-detection) test on the accused.

High drama unfolded on the court premises with a section of lawyers staging protest against Aftab. “Hang him, hang him,” they shouted as he was  produced before the court through video conferencing.

The 28-year-old man is accused of strangling Shraddha to death, chopping her body into over 35 pieces and dumping them in different parts of a forest area in South Delhi.

The murder reportedly took place on May 18, but the chilling details of the crime were revealed after Aftab was arrested on Monday and interrogated by Delhi Police.

Police have already recovered more than 10 body parts from the forest area and sent them for forensic analysis. The DNA will be matched with that of Shraddha's father to confirm the identity.

Police said the couple used to have frequent arguments over financial issues and it is suspected that there was also a fight between them that resulted in Aftab killing 27-year-old Walkar on the evening of May 18.
