The Congress hinted that its party chief Mallikarjun Kharge will continue as the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha.
Keeping in line with the ‘one person, one post’ policy of the Congress, which was adopted during the Udaipur Chintan Shivir, Kharge had submitted his resignation for the post after filing his nomination for the party's presidential elections.
However, the party is yet to take a call on Kharge's resignation, say media reports.
AICC general secretary communications Jairam Ramesh, when asked about the party chief's dual post, clarified that Kharge will continue to engage with opposition parties not just as the chief of the Congress, but as the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha as well.
The parliamentary strategy group of the Congress, which met at the residence of Sonia Gandhi on Saturday evening, said there was no discussion on the issue of Kharge continuing as the Leader of Opposition. Several leaders, meanwhile, are reportedly lobbying for the post.
