With cyclone Mandous making landfall off Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu, heavy rains lashed out in several parts of the southern coastal areas and districts of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. In the wake of the heavy rains, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting with the officials.
Due to heavy rains, the traffic movement on the Vekatagiri-Gudur state highway number 58 in Andra Pradesh was interrupted due to waterlogging.
Traffic disruptions also took place in Balayapalli village.
According to reports, Naidupeta in Tirupati district received the highest rainfall at 281.5 mm during the past 24 hours on Saturday. However, the intensity of the rains has come down.
However, Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor and Annamayya districts have been put on alert as incidents of flash floods could occur. District collectors have been given instructions to open relief camps if required.
As a precautionary measure, the state government shifted 190 people to 28 relief camps in Tirupati district.
As many as 150 SDRF and 95 NDRF personnel have been deployed in four districts to be pressed into service in case of any eventuality.
According to Meteorological Department, Chennai and several other parts of Tamil Nadu along with Andra Pradesh have witnessed heavy rains and strong winds as cyclonic storm Mandous crossed the states on Saturday.
