Vande Bharat Express, Metro: PM in Nagpur to launch projects worth Rs 75,000 cr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on Sunday where he will launch phase-I of the Nagpur Metro and dedicate to the nation AIIMS Nagpur. He will also flag off the Vande Bharat Express in Nagpur.

A statement by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate projects worth Rs 75,000 crores in Maharashtra on Sunday. 

He will also inagurate the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, a highway that covers 520 km and connects Nagpur and Shirdi.

"The 701 Km expressway - being built at a cost of about Rs 55,000 crore - is one of India's longest expressways, passing through Maharashtra's 10 districts and prominent urban regions of Amravati, Aurangabad and Nashik. The expressway will also help improve the connectivity of adjoining 14 other districts, thus helping in the development of about 24 districts of the state including the regions of Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Maharashtra," the PMO said in a statement.

Nagpur Metro

Prime Minister will dedicate 'Nagpur Metro Phase I' to the nation on Sunday. He will flag off two metro trains - from Khapri to Automotive Square (Orange Line) and from Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar (Aqua line) - at Khapri Metro Station. The second phase of the project, developed at a cost of over Rs 6700 crore, will also be launched by the Prime Minister today.

Besides, Modi will attend a public function in Vidarbha where he will inaugurate railway projects worth more than Rs 1,500 crores

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate AIIMS Nagpur, a hospital with state-of-the-art facilities, to the nation today. "The hospital provides modern health care facilities to the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and is a boon to the surrounding tribal areas of Gadchiroli, Gondia and Melghat," the statement added.

Besides flagging off the Vande Bharat Express that will run between Nagpur and Bilaspur., Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Nagpur Railway Station and Ajni Railway Station. He will also lay the foundation stone of the project for pollution abatement of river Nag at Nagpur.

Mopa airport, Goa

Modi will leave for Goa later the day where he will address the valedictory function of the World Ayurveda Congress and also inaugurate three national Ayush institutes. 

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Mopa international airport in Goa, a project launched in 2016. The airport cost around Rs 2,870 crores and initially, phase I of the airport, will cater to around 4.4 million passengers every year.
