The comments were made outside the House, no need to discuss here: Kharge

Heated arguments were exchanged between BJP and Opposition members over the "dog" remarks made by Congress chief Mallkarjun Kharge.

While addressing a rally in Rajasthan on Monday, Kharge claimed that while the Congress stood for the country and helped attain independence after its leaders gave supreme sacrifices, "not even a dog of the BJP was lost" for the country.

BJP created an uproar over the remarks in the parliament and sought an apology.

"Mallikarjun Kharge should apologise for using offensive language in Alwar," said Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in Rajya Sabha.

The demand for his apology created chaos in the parliament.

"What I said during Bharat Jodo Yatra in Rajasthan's Alwar was outside the House. What I said was politically outside the House, not inside. There is no need to discuss that here. Secondly, I can still say that they had no role in the freedom struggle," Kharge said in the Rajya Sabha, reported ANI.

"We strongly condemn the statement made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Rajasthan yesterday. It's an Italian Congress which is running today. It is being said that he is a rubber stamp president," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi was quoted by ANI.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also expressed his shock in his objectionable remarks. "We are not enemies, we are rivals," said Rijiju.

Opposition walks out

At the end of the Rajya Sabha morning session, the opposition walked out alleging that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) only visits opposition ruled states for investigations while skipping BJP-governed Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

It is unfortunate that the NHRC is visiting Bihar and Bengal but does not visit Uttar Pradesh and Gujarar, said Dola Sen of the TMC. Later the entire opposition walked out from the Rajya Sabha.
