Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government, saying Hindu-Muslim hatred is being spread in the country to divert people's attention from real issues. Addressing a rally at historic Red Fort in Delhi, where his Bharat Jodo Yatra reached on Saturday, Rahul alleged that the prime minister and the BJP had spent thousands of crores of rupees to destroy his image.
"It is not Narendra Modi's government. It is Ambani and Adani government. Hindu-Muslim hate is being spread 24X7 on TV to divert public attention from real issues,” Rahul said, adding that the degree holder youths in the country are selling 'pakoras'.
"I have walked 2,800 km, but did not see any hatred. When I turn on the TV, however, I see violence," he said.
Referring to the Bhagwad Gita and the Upanishads, he said nowhere in the Hindu texts it is written to oppress the poor.
"In Bharat Jodo Yatra, dogs also came but no one harmed them. Cow, buffaloes, pigs, all animals came. This Yatra is like our India, I have not seen any hatred or violence among people while walking 2,800 kms, I have not seen violence or hatred anywhere in the country. But when I turn on the TV, there is hatred all the time," the MP said.
Earlier in the day, the Gandhi family walked together in the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Saturday as former party president Sonia Gandhi, her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren joined Rahul Gandhi in the march in the national capital.
Sonia Gandhi and her family members walked with Rahul Gandhi for a short distance till the yatra halted for the morning break at the Ashram Chowk in Delhi.
This is the second time Sonia Gandhi, also Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson, joined the yatra that began in September from Kanyakumari. She had earlier taken part in the march in October when it was in Mandya in Karnataka.
This is the first time the entire family has walked in the Bharat Jodo Yatra together.
The yatra entered Delhi from Haryana Saturday morning and was accorded a warm welcome at the Badarpur border by party leaders and workers.
Traffic snarls were reported from parts of Delhi as the march made its way through the national capital. The yatra will halt near the Red Fort in the evening.
