PM Modi's mother Hiraba Modi laid to rest in Gandhinagar on Friday. PM Modi reached Gujarat early this morning and performed the last rites of his mother.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried his mother's bier on his shoulders. The body was then put in an ambulance and he climbed in. The final rites were performed at the crematorium.
PM Modi's family thanked everyone for their prayers in these tough times. "We thank everyone for their prayers in these tough times. It is our humble request to everyone to keep the departed soul in their thoughts and continue with their pre-decided schedule and commitments. That would be a befitting tribute to Hiraba," reported ANI.
Hiraba used to live with PM Modi's younger brother, Pankaj Modi, at Raysan village near Gandhinagar. Often PM used to visit his mother and spend quality time with her.
PM Modi had written a blog on her 99th birthday saying that her life "shaped his mind, personality and self-confidence.
President Droupadi Murmu, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, MP Rahul Gandhi and several ministers of state condoled the demise of PM's mother.

"Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Smt. Heeraben Modi. My heartfelt condolences to Sri @narendramodi ji on the loss of his beloved mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family in this hour of grief," tweeted Kharge.
Earlier in the morning, PM Modi had tweeted that "a great journey of 100 years" has ended.
Also, Modi will attend the scheduled events via video conference.
