Delhi accident: Victim's mother says can't believe claims of Anjali's friend, alleges conspiracy

'Anjali never used to drink, she never came home in an inebriated state'

Family members of Anjali Singh, who was killed in the early hours of the New Year after her scooter was hit by a car, which dragged her for 12 km, were angered by the claims of her friend who had said Anjali was drunk during the time of the accident.

Anjali's friend Nidhi had said they had gone to meet some friends at a hotel on New Year and alleged that despite being 'drunk', the victim wanted to ride the scooter after the party.

Nidhi was seen returning home around 2.30 am, about 45 minutes after they left the hotel where they attended a New Year party, according to CCTV footage recovered by police. The victim's friend, wearing a red sweatshirt with a hoodie, was seen anxiously kicking her house door and pacing up and down, the footage showed.

Nidhi had claimed that she ran away from the spot because she was scared and did not know what to do.

However, Anjali's mother Rekha claimed that she does not know who Nidhi is. "I don't know Nidhi, I have never seen her. Anjali never used to drink, she never came home in an inebriated state, and we don't believe whatever claims Nidhi made," her mother said.

Rekha said Nidhi is saying all the wrong things and alleged conspiracy behind her claims. "If Nidhi was my daughter's friend, then how did she leave her alone? This is a well-thought-out conspiracy, Nidhi might be involved in this. There should be an investigation and the five men should be punished," news agency ANI quoted her as saying.

Anjali's maternal uncle Prem said Nidhi and her family should have informed the police about the incident and demanded that the police question her as well. "She too is involved. We demand CBI enquiry in the case, it isn't small case, it is a painful incident," he said.
