In a second major demolition exercise, the Uttarakhand government has decided to demolish houses that have developed deep cracks. According to reports, the structures at Jaypee Residential colony in Joshimath are set to be demolished.

A few days ago, the district administration began the process of demolishing two big hotels--Mount View and Malari Inn--in Joshimath.

There are over 30 houses in the colony and many of them have developed large cracks, reported Times of India.

Earlier CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Joshimath on January 11 and met with the residents and distressed families. The CM had said that only in case of unavoidable situations the houses must be razed and otherwise there is no need to demolish them.

Meanwhile, the geophysical survey has started in the area. As part of the survey, residents are being asked to move to safer locations based on the scientific analyses of expert teams on the ground.

After land subsidence in the Joshimath area of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, cracks have started to appear in houses in Sharana Chai village too.

In the wake of the Joshimath issue, CM Sukhu holds a meeting to avert any such incidents in the state. Sukhu held a meeting with the disaster management officers and DCs of all the districts at the secretariat regarding the possibilities of such incidents in Himachal Pradesh.

Sukhu told reporters that there is no possibility of a Joshimath-like incident in Himachal Pradesh but still officials have been instructed to take precautions.
