Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar has responded to the  viral video of his son assaulting another student, calling it "dirty politics."

A statement by Bandi Sanjay Kumar said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was targeting his son and the said incident happened two months ago. "It is sad that now KCR is dragging our children into dirty politics…The incident happened two months ago, KCR is pressuring the University to file a criminal case against my son,"  he said in the statement.

Kumar's son Bandi Bhagirath Sai is an engineering first-year student. He was seen on video beating up a fellow student, identified as Sriram, on the premises of a private educational institute for allegedly "misbehaving" with the sister of his friend. A video of the incident purportedly showing one person slapping another has gone viral on social media.

The second video soon emerged, showing Sriram being thrashed by Bhagirath and about five-six other students in his hostel room. Bhagirath, surrounded by other men, is seen punching Sriram in his face. The others were also seen assaulting Sriram.

Following this, a case was registered against Bhagirath. Based on the complaint given by the Head of the Disciplinary Committee of the institute, an FIR was registered against him at Dundigal police station under Sections 323 (causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and other relevant provisions of the IPC, a senior police official told PTI.

Meanwhile, the victim has reacted to the incident, stating it was "a trivial matter." "We had an argument after he confronted me for hitting on his friend’s sister. I spoke to him in a rude tone following which we had a fight," News 18 quoted the victim.

Though BRS social media convener Y Satish Reddy, who shared the video of the assault on Twitter, said Sriram was hospitalized, he refused the claim.

Bandi Sanjay also said this was an "internal issue" and the matter had been solved. I’m ready to surrender my son before the police because the truth will prevail," he added.
