Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on Monday targeted the Centre over the 2019 Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. Singh said though the government claims to have carried out a surgical strike against Pakistan, there was no proof of it.
"They (Centre) talk about surgical strikes and that they have killed so many of them but there is no proof. They are ruling by peddling a bundle of lies," he said, addressing a public meeting in Jammu during the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Singh alleged that the government did not agree to the CRPF request of flying its personnel from Srinagar to Delhi and 40 soldiers sacrificed their lives to the terror attack.
Further questioning the government over the attack, Singh said: "Every car is checked in the area. Why on that particular day was the Scorpio car not checked? A vehicle came from the wrong direction. Why it was not checked?”
The Congress leader said the government has not yet given any information related to the incident either to the parliament or to the public.
Militants attacked a CRPF convoy in Pulwama on February 14, 2019, killing 44 soldiers. In retaliation, Indian Air Force's fighter jets targeted Jaish-e-Mohammed's advanced terror launch pads in Pakistan's Balakot.
Singh's remarks drew a sharp reaction from the BJP which said the Congress doesn't have trust in India's armed forces.
"Such comments show that the Rahul Gandhi-led foot march across the country is Bharat Jodo Yatra only in name while he and his party colleagues are working to 'break' the country. It is essentially 'Bharat todo yatra'," said BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia.
He said, "India will not tolerate if they speak against armed forces. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress hate PM Modi but it seems they have been blinded by the hate to an extent that their dedication to the country has withered away."
