In a new development to Nikki Yadav's murder, who was allegedly strangled by her partner Sahil Gehlot, Delhi Police arrested Sahil's father for helping him to plan the murder.
Delhi Police have arrested five people—including father and two cousins—in connection with Nikki's murder.
According to police, accused Sahil and Nikki got married in a temple in Noida in October 2020. “Sahil's family was unhappy with their marriage. Sahil's family fixed his wedding in December 2022 and hid from the girl's family that Sahil had already married Nikki,” reported ANI quoting Delhi police sources.
Reportedly, police have also recovered certificates related to Sahil and Nikki's marriage during the remand.
“Sahil's father Virender Singh has been arrested after police found that he knew that his son had allegedly murdered Nikki. He has been booked u/s 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC. Four others including friend, cousin and brother of accused Sahil Gehlot arrested,” Special CP Ravinder Yadav told ANI.
Sahil was interrogated during police custody remand. “He executed the plan and murdered Nikki and informed the other co-accused persons about it and then all of them went ahead with the marriage ceremony,” reported ANI quoting Ravinder Yadav.
Meanwhile, Sunil Yadhav, Nikki's father said that "no one in the family knew about their marraige. All those involved in the murder must get maximum punishment", Nikki's father told ANI.
All five co-accused (father, two cousins, Ashish, Naveen and two friends Amar , Lokesh) were thoroughly interrogated and arrested after verifying and ascertaining their role. Naveen is a Constable in Delhi Police. Further Investigation underway, he added.
The police had recovered Nikki's body on February 14, four days after the crime was committed, from inside a fridge at a restaurant. Sahil had confessed to the crime in police custody and led the police to the body at the restaurant.
