Northeast polls: BJP set to win Nagaland, Tripura; Sangma short of majority in Meghalaya

As the counting of votes continue in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has crossed halfway mark and is set to win Nagaland and Tripura Assembly elections. The BJP-NDPP alliance in Nagaland is leading in 39 seats, while the Congress and NPF secured only three seats.

Celebrations in Tripura

BJP workers has started celebrations in Tripura as the BJP won 21 and is leading on 12 of the total 60 seats in the state in the latest trend at 3:15 pm. Tipra Motha Party won 8 seats and is leading on 4 seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) won 3 seat and is leading on 8 seats.

Tripura CM Manik Saha won the Town Bardowali seat by 1,257 votes.

Tipra has registered win in Ambassa, Ampinagar, Asharambari, Karamchara, Ramchandraghat and Simna.

Slogans such as "Narendra Modi Zindabad" and "Jai Shri Ram" were raised by the BJP workers at their election office in Colonel Chowmuhani area in Agartala.

According to ECI, BJP-IPFT alliance has secured a total of four seats so far. Three seats were won by BJP candidates while one was clinched by the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura.

Nagaland gets first woman MLA

In its first, Nagaland got its first woman MLA in Hekani Jakhalu, a candidate of the ruling NDPP won the Dimapur-III Assembly constituency. Jakhalu secured 14,395 votes.

Another woman candidate, Salhoutuonuo Kruse of the NDPP was also leading in the Western Angami seat.

According to the ECI at 3:15 pm on Thursday, the BJP and NDPP have bagged eight and 13 seats respectively.

Hung verdict likely in Meghalaya

NPP had won 10 seats and they are leading on 15 seats. The United Democratic Party had won 8 seats, while Congress secured only four seats so far. "We'd like to thank the people of the state for having voted for us. We are short on a few numbers, so we'll wait for the final results to come out. We will see what next steps are to be taken based on the final results," Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma was quoted by ANI.
