Even as the security agencies have intensified their manhunt to nab radical preacher Amritpal Singh, a fresh CCTV footage showing the fugitive walking on the streets of Delhi has emerged on social platforms.
According to reports, the footage is from March 21, three days after Punjab Police launched a massive operation to arrest the pro-Khalistan leader. In the video, the Waris Punjab De chief could be seen wearing a denim jacket, and jeans with sunglasses on, and covering his face with a mask apparently to hide his identity.
Amritpal's associate Papalpreet Singh could also be seen walking with him carrying a backpack.
The video has emerged a day after a picture of Amritpal and Papalpreet was widely circulated on social media. That image showed both of them looking relaxed and Amritpal holding a beverage can.
The Punjab Police launched its crackdown on Amritpal and his aides on March 19 three weeks after the separatist leader and his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested man.
Police have arrested or detained a number of his associates under criminal cases related to spreading disharmony, attempt to murder and attack, police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge duty by public servants.
The Punjab government on Tuesday told the high court that they are close to catching Amritpal. The court of Justice N.S. Shekhawat was hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by advocate Imaan Singh Khara, seeking the release of Amritpal Singh from alleged police custody.
Meanwhile, a section of reports claimed Amritpal has fled to Nepal. The Himalayan country has Put the fugitive on its surveillance list after India requested it not to allow him to flee to a third country and arrest him if he attempts to escape using an Indian passport or any other fake passport.
