In connection with the clashes that occurred between groups during the Ram Navami celebrations, several got arrested in various states. Sporadic violence and stone pelting were reported from several states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Kolkata.
Police have arrested over 20 persons in connection with the clash between two groups during a Ram Navami procession in Mumbai's Malvani area. The incident occurred when the procession was going on. Some people objected to the loud music accompanying it which led to the tussle.
"The police have so far apprehended more than 20 persons on the charge of rioting and the process to place them under arrest is on," an official told PTI.
Police had to use additional force to disperse the crowd that gathered at the site of the incident.
In another similar incident, the police had detained 24 persons for allegedly hurling stones at two Ram Navami processions in communally-sensitive areas in Vadodara city of Gujarat.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Shamsher Singh said that the situation in the city was under control.
"We have so far detained 24 persons in connection with the stone pelting incidents that occurred during the Ram Navami processions in the city on Thursday. They will be formally arrested soon after the registration of first information reports (FIRs). The situation is completely under control and normalcy was restored yesterday itself," said Singh.
At least two persons were injured in the stone-pelting incident at Kumbharwada. Videos of the incident that surfaced the social media revealed people seeking shelter during the stone pelting.
