Local trains suspended in Hoogly amid stone-pelting incident; BJP hits out at TMC

Tense situation prevailed in the Hooghly district of West Bengal on Monday evening too, amid reports of fresh stone-pelting incidents. Following this, the Railways suspended all local and mail express train services operating to and from Rishra Railway Station.

An incident of stone pelting occurred at Rishra Railway Station, ANI quoted Eastern Railway chief public relations officer Kaushik Miron. "For the security of common people, all local and mail express train services have been suspended on Howrah-Bardhaman Main Line," he added.

Following the tensions, local police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident or violence. The district witnessed violence on Sunday evening after stones were allegedly pelted at the Ram Navami procession of the BJP.

However, the situation in violence-hit towns of Hooghly district remained mostly peaceful and under control. The state government had put in place prohibitory orders and suspended internet services in some areas continued.

However, police said a delegation led by BJP state president was stopped from entering the industrial suburb of Rishra. 

Meanwhile, leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari reacted to the resh incident of stone-pelting in Rishra town, stating that the entire State Administration is enjoying a beach holiday in 'Digha.' 

Taking to Twitter, the BJP leader said, "Stone pelting & bombing near Rishra Railway Station forced suspension of local & express train services on the Howrah-Bardhaman Line."

"After RPF’s action train services now have been restored. Rishra is burning and the entire State Administration is enjoying a beach holiday in Digha," he further said in his tweet.

Tensions in Jharkhand

The Sahibganj town in Jharkhand too witnessed tensions on Monday after a temple near Patel chowk was vandalised by miscreants. An additional police force has been deployed in the area to control the situation.

Police said they have CCTV footage of the incident and are in the process of verifying it.
