Days after Aam Aadmi Party supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was fined by Gujarat High Court for seeking details of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree certificates, the party on Sunday launched a 'Show your degree' campaign.
Delhi minister Atishi, addressing a press conference, said the AAP leaders will show their education certificates to the public as part of the campaign and asked the BJP leaders, too, to do the same.
"We are starting a campaign today. Your leaders will show their degree everyday to you. I have a BA degree from Delhi University and two Master's degree from Oxford. All of them are original," she said.
"I want to ask all leaders to show their degrees, especially BJP leaders," Atishi further said, apparently targeting the prime minister.
The Gujarat High Court on March 31 quashed a seven-year-old order of the Central Information Commission (CIC) which had asked the Gujarat University to provide information on Modi's degree to Kejriwal.
Allowing the university's appeal against the CIC order, Justice Biren Vaishnav also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal and asked him to deposit the amount within four weeks to the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA).
“The entire country is stunned by the High Court's order because there should be a freedom of seeking information and asking questions in a democracy,” the AAP chief said a day after the court order.
He further said that the high court's order had increased the suspicion over the prime minister's education.
