Amid high drama in Rajasthan, Congress leader Sachin Pilot began his day-long fast at the Shaheed Smarak, demanding action in cases of alleged corruption related to the previous BJP government. Pilot went ahead with his protest despite a warning from his party that termed it as an 'anti-party activity'.
Pilot on Sunday alleged that the Ashok Gehlot-led government failed to investigate cases of alleged corruption during the Vasudhara Raje-rule in Rajasthan. Taking strong objection to the protest fast by former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Pilot, the Congress on Monday said any such protest against its sitting government clearly amounts to anti-party activity. Sukhjinder Randhawa, the Congress's Rajasthan in-charge, said he talked to Pilot during the day and told him to raise issues at party platforms instead of going public against its own government.
Before he began the fast on Tuesday, Pilot offered floral tributes to social reformer Jyotirao Phule on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Pilot's recent confrontation with Gehlot is been keenly watched, with the BJP referring to it as the 'last nail in the coffin of the Congress government'. “Sachin Pilot is giving an open challenge to the high command. His day-long fast will prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the Congress government. Congress has lost its hold across the country,” said Rajendra Rathore, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, even as Pilot sits on dharna protesting against government apathy, Gehlot released a video announcing new schemes.
