Papalpreet Singh, a close aide of fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh was brought to Amritsar airport on Tuesday. Papalpreet, the so-called mentor of Amritpal, was arrested from Kathunangal area on Monday by the joint operation conducted by Punjab Police and its counter intelligence wing. He is reportedly taken to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sukchain Singh Gill said that Papalpreet Singh was arrested under the National Security Act (NSA).

According to the police they both had escaped the police's dragnet last month. Reportedly, Papalpreeet had revealed to the police on how they had evaded the police for such a long time.

The police had been conducting searches at many places, including Hoshiarpur, to nab the duo. Papalpreet's arrest comes days after a CCTV footage made the rounds on social media in which he could be seen at a 'dera' (place for religious congregation) in Hoshiarpur.

Police believes that both Papalpreet and Amritpal could have separated in Hoshiarpur following the police chase of their vehicle.

Many pictures of the duo had surfaced on social media. In one such footage, both of them could be seen wearing masks while roaming around a street in Delhi.

Last month, 'Waris Punjab De' chief and pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh released a new video in which he said that he is not a 'fugitive' and would soon "appear in front of the world".

In March 18, Punjab Police had launched an operation against Amritpal and his aides. Since then he is on the run. A massive manhunt was launched for him. Some of his close aides have been arrested by the Police.
