Union Home Minister Amit Shah targetted Mamata Banerjee and the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal on Friday, and said that BJP is the only way to free the state from 'terror'. Shah is in Birbhum to strengthen the party's organisational structure ahead of rural polls in the state

Laying the pitch for the 2024 general elections, Shah said: “Give us 35 seats in 2024, there will be no need for 2025 (West Bengal polls); before 2025 Mamata didi's govt will collapse.” Addressing a rally at Birbhum, Shah added that Banerjee may dream of making her nephew CM, but next chief minister will be from BJP. Banerjee's nephew Abhishek is TMC's national general secretary and an MP.

Taking on the TMC over the recent Ram Navami violence, Shah said: “After BJP's win in 2024, none will dare attack Ram Navami rallies in Bengal.”

Earlier this month, violence broke out during Ram Navami processions in Shibpur and Kazipara areas of Howrah district on Thursday with several shops ransacked and a number of vehicles set on fire. Chief Minister Banerjee had blamed the BJP for the violence and the clashes during the processions organised by the BJP were deliberately stocked. The Union Home Ministry later sought a detailed report from the West Bengal government on the incidents of violence.

The Banerjee government is scheduled to complete the third term in 2026. The BJP won 18 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal in the 2019 elections.
