The BJP's poll campaign in Karnataka got a boost on Wednesday as Kannada actor Kiccha Sudeep campaigned for the saffron party's candidate S. Thippeswamy in Chitradurga. Earlier this month, the actor confirmed he will campaign for the BJP in the state, while clarifying that he is not joining politics.

The party expects Sudeep's presence to influence the Valmiki caste to which the actor belongs. According to to reports, the caste holds sway in the Kalyana-Karnataka region. Sudeep's presence on the campaign trail comes on a day when many other star campaigners including UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Rajnath Singh are also touring the state to spearhead the campaign.

Sudeep had earlier spoken about his closeness to the BJP and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, whom he fondly refers to as mama (uncle).

On a day of intense campaigning from the BjP's side, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is also ona two-day visit to the poll-bound state. The Congress General Secretary took a break from her busy election campaign and tried her hand at making crisp dosas at a restaurant in Mysuru.

During a massive roadshow on Tuesday, she urged voters to bring in a new government led by the Congress and usher in new hope in the state.
