Karnataka: Congress to release its manifesto; PM Modi to begin second leg of his campaign

As the countdown for Karnataka Assembly elections begins, the Congress, buoyed by pre-poll surveys predicting victory, will release its manifesto on Tuesday. This comes a day after BJP released theirs, promising a slew of measures. 

Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar confirmed the manifesto release on Monday. "The Congress is coming to power. We are going to implement our five guarantees. Tomorrow we are releasing our manifesto," Shivakumar. 

 Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge will release the manifesto in Bengaluru in the presence of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah, state unit president DK Shivakumar and Chairman of the Manifesto Committee Dr Parameshwaraji, among other party leaders. 

Earlier, the party had promised to release a separate manifesto for the coastal region of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada. He then added that the manifesto will emphasize the promotion of industries, startups and the fisheries sector.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will return to Karnataka on Tuesday. As per sources, the Prime Minister will address public meetings at Chitradurga, Hospet, and Sindhanur before participating in a roadshow at Kalaburagi this afternoon. 

BJP election-in-charge of the Mangaluru section Uday Kumar Shetty said the Prime Minister will address a huge public gathering at Mulki in Dakshina Kannada district. More than three lakh people will participate in the meeting which will cover the 13 assembly segments in the two districts, Shetty said.

Besides Modi and Amit Shah, who is camping in the state, senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi will address a public meeting at Mandya and participate in three roadshows at Chintamannni, Hosakote, and CV Raman Nagar. Rahul Gandhi will also address two public rallies and one roadshow at Chikmagalur.
