Gangster Anil Dujana, who was out on bail in a murder case, was shot dead in an encounter with a team of Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh Police in Meerut on Thursday. Dujana had over 60 cases lodged against him, including murder and extortion.

"Anil Dujana, a wanted criminal, was surrounded by our team in a village in Meerut on Thursday afternoon. Dujana fired at our team to escape and was killed in retaliatory firing,” Additional Director General of UP STF Amitabh Yash said, reported PTI.

The STF team that carried out the operation was led by Additional SP of UP STF Brijesh Singh.

Dujana walked out of jail just a week ago after getting bail in a murder case. According to reports, he started threatening one of the key witnesses in the case.

Following the witness's complaint, the STF moved in to arrest Dujana, but his gang engaged the police, leading to a gunfight.

According to an NDTV report, the encounter took place on an unpaved road, surrounded by tall bushes, in a village in Meerut.
