Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Rajouri in Jammu on Saturday, where five special force personnel (Paras) of the Army were killed on Friday during an operation at Kandi forests at Trinetra.
The militants against whom the operation was launched are believed to be involved in the April 20 ambush on an Army truck killing five soldiers(Rashtriya Rifles) at Tota Gali area of Bhata Dhurian, Rajouri, Jammu.
After the Tota Gali attack, the militants fled into the forests in the area.
After landing in Jammu, Singh was received by Army Chief Manoj Pande and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.
In Rajouri, Singh will meet senior Army and officers of Police and para-military forces, who are monitoring the operation against militants in the Trinetra forests. The officials will brief him about the latest on the operation against militants.
This morning, one militant was killed while another is likely to have suffered injuries on Saturday.
Army in coordination with J&K Police and CRPF, closed in on at around 7 am and pinned down the militants, said the defence spokesperson in Jammu.
“ In the ensuing gunbattle, one terrorist has been neutralised and another is likely injured,’’ the spokesman said.
Indian Army in its statement said that they had recovered one AK-56 rifle, four magazines of AK-56, 56 rounds of AK, 1x9mm Pistol with magazine, 3 grenades and 1 ammunition pouch from the site of encounter so far.
“The identity of the neutralised militant is being ascertained. Operation Trinetra continues,” said the Army.
