With the curfew relaxed in the violence-hit Manipur, the life is slowly limbing back to normalcy. The ethnic clashes that broke out between the Meiteis and the tribals over the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status paved way for the matter to reach the Supreme Court (SC). SC is set to hear a batch of pleas on the Manipur situation on Monday.
SC bench of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justices P.S Narashima and J.B Pardiwala will hear a batch of pleas.
The bench is set to hear three petitions including one by BJP MLA challenging the high court order on the issue of ST status to the Meitei community and also PIL by tribal group for an SIT probe into the recent violence in Manipur.
Also, the State Home Department has directed the district magistrates to relax the curfew in 11 districts, Times of India report said.
Curfew will be partially lifted in Imphal East, Imphal West districts, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Kakching, Jiribam, Bishnupur, Pherzawal, Chandel, Churachandpur and Tengnoupal.
On Sunday, the restrictions were relaxed in Churachandpur from 7 am to 10 am to allow people to buy essential items such as food and medicines. On Monday the curfew will be relaxed in Imphal West district from 5 am to 8 pm.
Meanwhile, the government has come forward showing willingness to talk to the groups in the state to resolve their issues.
"Please come forward to solve the issues in a peaceful manner. The government is ready. You have seen the farmers issue. When it was peaceful, we tried to convince them. As the issue was not resolved, we agreed to their demand, and those bills (three farm laws were withdrawn. So the government is not adamant," G. Kishan Reddy was quoted by PTI.
"We should resolve the issues through discussions, and not through violence. Nothing can be achieved through violence," the Union Minister said.
On the recent violence that broke out in Manipur, Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor called for imposing President's rule. "The voters of the Manipur are feeling grossly betrayed just a year after putting the BJP in power in their state" Tharoor said in his tweet.
People fleeing to Mizoram
Around 600 people has so far fled to Mizoram from violence-hit Manipur. The majority of those rescued from the violence-hit areas are lodged in temporary camps in several villages.
Over 23,000 civilians were rescued by the Army from the violence-hit areas. The violence has claimed over 50 lives.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his support to help improve the situation in the violence-hit state.
