Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will kick-start the Congress's campaign for the year-end Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls from Jabalpur on Monday.

With a sizable number of tribal voters, Congress looks ahead to woo the tribal communities.

After arriving in Jabalpur, Priyanka offered prayers to Narmada river. Jabalpur, also known as Sanskardhrani, is the cultural capital of the state and has been adorned with cut outs of mace-carrying Hanuman ahead of the visit, reported PTI.

Gandhi performed puja along the banks of the Narmada at Gwarighat accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath, party general secretary in-charge of the state JP Agrawal and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha.

En route to the rally venue eight kilometres away, she will garland a statue of Rani Durgavati, who attained martyrdom fighting the Mughals.

The rally will be attended by at least two lakh persons, said Jabalpur mayor and Congress' city chief Jagat Bahadur Singh.

"People in Mahakoshal area or Jabalpur division having eight districts feel neglected by the BJP. We did well (last time) in the area. This time around we are going to sweep the polls," he said.

With Kamal Nath by the side, Congress is looking confident to win the polls, said sources.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had said that the party would win 150 seats out of the total 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh, just like it did in Karnataka.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, the Congress won 11 of the 13 Scheduled Tribe reserved seats in the eight-district division, with the remaining two bagged by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
