With around five lakh people affected due to floods, the situation in Assam remains grim. According to the officials, one person died in Tamulpur of Udalguri district and around five lakh people were affected due to flooding in different parts of the state.
Meanwhile, IMD forecast predicted heavy rain over the next few days. Major rivers of the state, including Brahmaputra were flowing above the danger level at different areas, said Central Water Commission (CWC) report.
As many as 4.95 lakh people were hit by floods till Thursday evening, said the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report.
Rivers including Puthimari (Kamrup), Paglagiya (Nalbari) and Manas (Barpeta) were flowing over the red mark.
An yellow alert has been issued by the Regional Meteorological Department for Friday. People were asked to remain indoors and watch out for the heavy rainfall and thunderstorm.
Around 16 districts in entirety and four other sub-divisions have been affected by the floods so far.
Bajali sub-division has been the worst hit with over 2.60 lakh people affected.
The rescue and relief operations are ongoing in several areas. More than 14,000 people are taking shelter in 83 relief camps in seven districts, while another 79 relief distribution centres are also functional.
Central and paramilitary forces including the NDRF, SDRF and Fire and Emergency Services, civil administrations and locals have been engaged in rescue and relief operations.
Massive erosions have been witnessed in Sonitpur, Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhubri, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nalbari, South Salmara and Udalguri, the ASDMA report said.
Places in Bongaigaon and Dima Hasao have reported incidents of landslides due to heavy rainfall.
Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by floodwaters in Barpeta, Sonitpur, Darrang, Nalbari, Baksa, Chirang, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Udalguri, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji and Dibrugarh.
According to ASDMA report, urban areas were inundated at many places across Barpeta, Darrang, Jorhat, Kamrup Metropolitan, and Kokrajhar districts.
