The flood situation in Assam remains grim with over four lakh people hit across nine districts in the state. According to officials, three people have lost their lives so far in the district.

With the situation in Assam worsening, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and he has assured him all possible help from the Centre.

“Due to heavy rain, the people in parts of Assam are braving a flood-like situation. I have spoken to CM Shri @himantabiswaJi and assured all possible assistance. NDRF teams are already on the ground conducting relief and rescue operations and adequate forces are on standby,” tweeted Shah.

“The Modi government stands firm as it has always been with the people of Assam in these difficult times,” he added.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) official, three people have lost their lives in the first-wave of floods in Assam.

As per an ASDMA report, over 4,07,700 people are impacted by the deluge in Baksa, Barpeta, Darrang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Udalguri districts.

The officials also added that the water levels have started to recede in some areas.

As many as 101 relief camps have been set by the administration. Over 80,000 people are being sheltered in the relief centres set up in five districts.

Presently, 1,118 villages are under water and 8,469.56 hectare of crop area has been damaged across Assam, ASDMA said. The damages to the croplands further added to the woes of the people as the prices of the vegetables in Guwahati markets are rising.

The flood has also disrupted the supply chain, which in turn has raised the price of vegetables for two consecutive weeks, reported ANI.

Landslides due to heavy rainfall have been reported in Karimganj, Baksa, Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Nalbari and Udalguri.

Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by flood waters in Darrang, Sonitpur, Kamrup, Golaghat, Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Udalguri and Lakhimpur, the ASDMA report said.
