Incessant rains since Sunday left Delhi NCR flooded. With waterlogging, traffic congestions, and building collapses reported from several areas, its chaos in the national capital.
Areas including India Gate, Greater Kailash, Feroz Shah Road, Rafi Marg, Lodhi Estate and Shantipath received heavy rainfall resulting in waterlogging.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for a meeting with several officials to review the rain situation. The water level rising in Yamuna river will also be discussed in the meeting.
The meeting will be held at the Delhi Secretariat. Officials of the Irrigation and Flood Control department and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to attend the meeting.
Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
"Delhi NCR is likely to receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, however for the next four to five days it will rain but the intensity will remain low," Charan Singh, Head Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi was quoted by ANI.
In the wake of the heavy rainfall, ministers including Atishi visited Tilak Bridge, ITO areas and review the situation.
Meanwhile, four persons stuck on a rock in the swollen Narmada river near Bhedaghat in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district were rescued by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) after 13-hour operation on Monday.
According to the officials, four persons, belonging to Garhapurva in Jabalpur town, went for fishing in the area.
They got stuck on the rock following a sudden rise in the Narmada river level due to heavy rainfall in the upstream areas, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Shivesh Singh Baghel.
The stranded persons were provided food and life jackets through drones, he said.
Due to severe waterlogging, restrictions on traffic movement was imposed at Pragati Maidan tunnel. Traffic was temporarily closed due to heavy rains.
Schools across Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Faridabad will remain shut on Monday.
Over 200 complaints of waterlogging and two complaints of road cave-ins were reported in Delhi.
As per IMD, Delhi recorded 153 mm of rain in a 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Sunday, the highest in a single day in July since 1982.
A flood warning was issued on Sunday as Haryana released over one lakh cusecs of water into Yamuna river from the Hathnikund barrage.
As the water level in the rivier is rising, the Central Water Commission (CWC) said the danger mark of 205.33 metres is expected to cross on Tuesday.
"As per our our calculations, it seems that by tomorrow morning, the water level of river Yamuna will cross the danger mark. We are monitoring the flow of water in case the rainfall continues...It is expected that the river will cross the danger mark tomorrow, at Old Yamuna Railway Bridge. Announcements have been made, & people living in flood plains are being evacuated. Boats have been stationed & they have proper rescue equipment. Arrangements are being made for people who have been evacuated," Atishi told ANI.
According to the CWC's flood-monitoring portal, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge touched 203.18 metres at 1 pm on Sunday. The warning level is 204.5 metres.
The water level is anticipated to rise to 205.5 metres between 11 am and 1 pm on Tuesday, the CWC said.
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar has also called for an emergency meeting with senior officials in the wake of the heavy rains.
