The Monsoon session of the Parliament on Monday is set to be rocked by the Manipur violence with the opposition firm on demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi statements on the multiple issues in the state. Congress MPs have moved adjournment motion notices to discuss the situation of the violence-hit state.
Amid Manipur violence, the Monsoon session that began on July 20. Opposition repeatedly demanded Modi's statements on the issue "inside the House and not outside".
On Friday both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were adjourned for the day amid ruckus created by Opposition parties demanding discussion on Manipur horror.
The INDIA Opposition alliance demanded that the PM make a comprehensive statement on Manipur in the Parliament.
In a tweet, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "The 3rd day of Monsoon session of Parliament begins today. INDIA's demand is straightforward. PM should make a comprehensive statement on the horrific post-May 3 developments in Manipur, after which a discussion would take place to express our collective sense of pain, anguish and desire for reconciliation."
Though the government has agreed to hold a brief discussion on the violence in the state by the Home Minister, the Opposition wants PM's statement first.
"No 5D drama that PM does to escape responsibility in such situations: He denies, 'distorts', diverts, deflects and 'defames'. Will he rise to the occasion? Manipur is waiting. The nation is watching," said Ramesh.
Meanwhile, Opposition leaders are set to hold protest near Gandhi Statue against the government for not addressing the issues with its importance.
"The country demands that the Govt and PM Modi should speak on the issue of Manipur. It is the responsibility of the Central govt to restore peace in the country. Today we are going to protest against this issue in the Parliament. Rajya Sabha Chairman should allow us to discuss on the Manipur issue," AAP MP Raghav Chada told ANI ahead of the session.
Since May 3 onwards Manipur has been witnessing ethnic clashes and violence. Recently a horrific video of two women paraded by a mob naked on the streets surfaced social media trigerring nation-wide protests. Six persons were arrested relating to the incident and a search is underway to nab the rest identified in the video.
