Former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda was acquitted on Tuesday in a case of abetment of suicide of air hostess Geetika Sharma.

The co-accused Aruna Chadha was also acquitted by Special Judge Vikas Dhull. It was pointed out that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond all reasonable doubts.

The accused were facing charges under various sections, including 306 (abetment of suicide), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 466 (forgery).

Kanda was also framed under charges of rape (376) and 377 (unnatural sex).

However, later the Delhi High Court had quashed the charges under IPC 376 and 377.

Sharma was found dead on August 5, 2012 at her Ashok Vihar residence in North West Delhi. She was an employee in Kanda's MLDR airlines.

She had written a suicide note blaming harassment by Kanda and Chadha on August 4.

Following the allegations and case, Kanda was forced to resign from his post.
