Covid warriors, khadi workers and sarpanches: Over 1,800 'special guests' to attend I-Day celebrations

As the country celebrates its 77th Independence Day at Red Fort in Delhi on Tuesday, around 1,800 people from different walks of life have been invited as special guests.

The warriors of the Covid times in the healthcare, who worked with grit in those harsh times was also invited.

According to an official release, the initiative has been taken under the vision of 'Jan Bhagidari'.

Around 75 couples from each State/Union Territory in their traditional attire have also been invited to the event at Red Fort to be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 'special guests' list include over 400 Sarpanches from 660 villages, 250 from Farmer Producer Organisations scheme, 50 participants each of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.

Also, 50 each of Khadi workers, those involved in border roads construction, making of Amrit Sarovar, Har Ghar Jal Yojana, primary teachers, and fishermen were also invited.

The special guests are scheduled to visit the National War Memorial.

“We are happy that PM Modi has especially invited us for the Independence Day celebrations. During the Covid, it was very difficult for us to work...We worked for 12 hours and the Covid period was very challenging for us...I am very thankful that the nursing fraternity has been given recognition &I wish to thank PM Modi for this...” Nidhi, senior nursing officer was quoted by ANI.

Invites were sent to around 50 nurses along with their families.

'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrations, launched by the PM, marks an end this year.

Under the new initiatives taken by the authorities to celebrate the Independence Day includes selfie points arranged at various locations including National War Memorial, India Gate, Raj Ghat and Vijay Chowk.

An online selfie contest will be also conducted by the Ministry of Defence on the MyGov portal from August 15-20 as part of the celebrations.
