A tribal woman was allegedly beaten and paraded naked in Rajasthan's Pratapgarh district by her husband and in-laws. The incident came to light after a video went viral.

According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday in Nichalkota village. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was in a relationship with another man, said Dhariyawad SHO Peshawar Khan.

Amit Kumar, SP, Pratapgarh said that they had formed six teams in the district after the incident was reported. An FIR was lodged from the victim’s side as well, he added. A total of 10 accused have been named in the FIR.

Police said that strict action would be taken against all the accused.

Inspector General, Banswara, S. Parimal said that the accused were identified as Nathu Meena (the victim's husband), Velia Veena and Kanha Meena.

The accused tried to escape when they saw the police and they got injured during the run. They are presently undergoing treatment at Pratapgarh district hospital, said the officials.

Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra said the in-laws of the woman kidnapped her and took her to their village where the incident took place. Her in-laws were annoyed as she was staying with another man, he said.

After she was kidnapped to her village, she was beaten up by her husband and paraded naked, said Mishra.

Later, the video surfaced online that showed a man stripping a woman in front of people and parading her naked in the village.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the ADG (Crime) was sent to the scene of crime immediately and we have instructed the police to take strict action. “The case will be sent to a fast track court to ensure speedy delivery of justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women condemned the incident. “A woman was molested, stripped, and recorded on video. Despite it happening two days ago, police inaction is unacceptable. NCW chief Rekha Sharma has instructed the state's DGP to promptly arrest the culprits and invoke necessary IPC provisions. We demand a comprehensive report within 5 days,” NCW tweeted.
